Packed with Pure Plant Power argan oil is a super antioxidant that provides an extensive list of benefits for the skin, hair and nails.
The antioxidant content includes: Vitamin-E, Essential fatty acids omega 6 & 9, Polyphenols, Squalene, Triterpenoids, Carotenoids, Ferulic acid and Sterols.
Here we delve into each of these amazing antioxidant skin properties a little further.
Vitamin-E - Argan oil is exceptionally rich in Vitamin-E (Tocopherols) 200% more than olive oil. This high concentration of Vitamin-E make it an excellent antioxidant to fight cellular ageing and free radical damage.
Essential Fatty Acids - Argan oil is 80% unsaturated essential fatty acids, abundant in omega 9 (Oleic acid) and omega 6 (Linoleic acid) this miracle oil has been found to nourish dry skin, heal scarring, prevent and improve stretch marks, relieve itchiness, inflammation and dryness of eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea. Topical application of omega oils to the skin, boost lipid content and repair the skin barrier, which helps to protect delicate sensitive skin, increase moisture levels of dry skin, improve elasticity of ageing skin and protect natural barrier of the skin, making it beneficial for eczema & psoriasis. The essential fatty acid content of argan oil can balance oily and problematic skin by regulating the production of sebum, this miraculous oil can help to clear acne, blemishes and breakouts.
Polyphenols - A natural active compound of plants with anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties, Polyphenols can repair DNA damage caused by free radicals and protect from further damage. The anti-bacterial properties also heal and prevent further infection or increase of spots and acne.
Squalene - As well as being anti-bacterial & anti-inflammatory acts as an excellent protector with its naturally high emollient effect. An excellent nutrient dense moisturiser that can penetrate deeply, anchoring itself to cell membranes with its fat soluble triterpenoid compound. Squalene is wonderfully healing and moisturising with its moisture locking actions.
Triterpenoids - The Triterpenoid content in argan oil is wonderfully healing as it reduces the effects of scarring, making it excellent for all scars including acne scars, chicken pox scars, stretch marks, burns, scarring from cuts and wounds. Triterpenoids have also been found to contain anti-cancer properties, an excellent anti-oxidant to fight free-radical damage and protect your skin from the outer elements.
Carotenoid - One of the many antioxidants found in argan oil is Carotenoid this helps to break down bad fats/cholesterol within the body making it an excellent cellulite treatment. These fat soluble pigments found in plants help to treat skin problems caused by UV light/sun exposure by alleviating sunburn, redness, swelling, itchiness and sore skin. Carotenoids protect the skin cells from excessive free radical damage with its antioxidant power.
Ferulic acid - A super duper antioxidant and the most abundant phenolic compound found in argan oil. Found in the cell walls of plants, it increases the quality of other vitamins and antioxidants doubling the effects, making it an antioxidant super-house. When exposed to UV light it were found to increase its antioxidant activity therefore not only can it protect your skin it helps heal any past damage.
Phytosterols - Sterols (phytosterols) are a very important anti-ageing ingredient in argan oil, a lipid like compound that helps to promote new production of collagen. As we age the body produces less collagen, phytosterols have amazing anti-ageing benefits for the skin as they have been found to stop loss of collagen caused through sun exposure or damage and encourage the skin to produce new collagen, preventing the signs of ageing, encouraging reduction of lines and wrinkles.
Need anymore convincing? All of these wonderful antioxidants are vital for the health of your skin and body as they protect against disease, illness and ageing. Argan oil neutralises the free radicals to reverse the environmental damage on the skin with its potent list of antioxidants, making it an anti-pollutant powerhouse!!!
This photo is of me, Sam back in 2011 with the UNESCO protected Argan trees in south-west Morocco. My first discovery of argan oil where I spent time sourcing an organic argan oil from an ethical company. A lot has happened since then, much research and many formulations of which we will be sharing with you throughout this year.
Much Luna Love Sam x
